Compact Tractor

For smaller plots of land and large swaths of grass a compact tractor is often the best choice of vehicle for working the property. Often they are low maintenance, made from sheet metal and plastic, and have quickly available parts. The downside is these light duty machines aren’t designed to last for a long time and have almost no trade in or resale value. They are affordable and widely popular however.

Be wary of compact tractors with high horsepower engines on light duty frames and drive trains. Many manufacturers will put a larger engine on their light duty model to lure buyers into paying more money. Often the engine is going to cause more problems such as over working the drive train, frame, suspension, and other parts. This leads to mechanical failures that happen much more quickly than on an accurately sized model.

A compact tractor is no substitute for an agriculture tractor but they require much less maintenance and care making them great for odd jobs and mowing lawns. A heavy duty tractor is much more expensive but is less prone to breaking down and can almost always be repaired, although that is often expensive as well. If the property that needs to be worked on is larger than 10 acres, a heavy duty rig will be needed.
